I grew up in Montreal taking piano lessons, and later cello and voice. I wasn’t always the kid who wanted to practise. But those lessons taught me things I still use every day: staying with something hard until it gets easier, playing for people when I’m nervous, hearing “not yet” from a teacher and coming back the next week.
At 17 I fell in love with jazz. I went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in jazz performance at the Université de Montréal and a master’s in songwriting and production at Berklee College of Music. For the past three years, I’ve been working in Los Angeles as a producer, singer and songwriter, alongside world-renowned producers like Stargate.
What I love most now is passing on what those first lessons gave me. My students learn to focus for half an hour, to trust that practice works, and to play for their family with confidence. And every week they get one hour with a teacher who is paying full attention to them.
Every child should have that, wherever they live. That’s why Interlude is online, in English or French, with the same teacher every week.
